2019.10.05. Our presentations during the CCS2019

We attended the Conference on Complex Systems 2019 (CCS2019) held from 30 September to 04 October 2019 at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

Here are some thoughts about the conference and our own presentations.

  • The Philippines is well represented in the CCS2019! The 25 accepted papers from Philippine institutions follows only those of the host Singapore (63), US (40+), UK (35), and China (34).
  • Where does data science fit in? Surely a lot of things can be done by having the complete set of tools of data science. In fact, the emerging trend is for us to train the programs to learn on their own and do the tasks based on their artificial intelligence. But in some of the talks, the presenters highlighted the importance of the traditional approaches rooted from the sciences to provide the understanding behind the machine learning. I agree.
  • Speaking of data science, many of the talks involve big data. This is probably going to be the case for the next few years, probably even decades.
  • We did really well! I think that the people learned a thing or two after our presentations. The way we presented is also very good. Not bad for first timers!

Hoping to release the results of these research works soon. ■
