2019.05.13. Camping in Pangasinan

(Now: Relaxing.)

Our congregation arranged for a getaway to the beach. We drove hundreds of kilometers, on a convoy, to a remote beach resort in Pangasinan. And, man, the long drive was worth it.

The first view of the beach. The foreground shows the river, and it meets the sea beyond the sandbar to the left.

The group set up tents by the side of the mountain, the sandy place where the river meets the sea. Thanks to online delivery, all of the families that joined the trip were able to purchase nice-looking and rather sturdy tents in advance. There were huts that we rented for the electricity and the common tables, and the nearby houses sell drinking water and other supplies.

The trip was planned with the kids in mind. The place has relatively shallower and gentler waters by the edge of the river, where it meets the sea. Within minutes upon our arrival, the kids started to jump in, while the adults are preparing. Our little kiddo, in particular, really enjoyed the clear waters and the sand. It's definitely a whole new experience for her, certainly different from the tub and the tiles in the bathroom.

Apart from enjoying the views, the wind, and the waters, I had a good relaxation away from the worries of the real world. The place is not crowded with visitors; in fact, we almost had the entire place to ourselves. The food is also fresh, as we bought the fishermen's catch from the previous night.

As is usually the case with me, I wanted to explore the area a little bit. In the afternoon, when everybody was enjoying the sea, Steph and I walked up to the main road and took pictures of the surroundings. The views of the river are particularly dazzling, as if the road follows its emerald tracks from above while it snakes into forested areas. Too bad we couldn't cross to the other side because the main bridge is under construction.

We followed the river from above, walking along the main road.

We went to the nearest sari-sari store and bought chips and cola. We also caught a nice view of the afternoon sun by the beach on the way back.

View of the golden sunset from far away.

We took the time to dip in the sea when it got calmer. We caught the last glimmer of sunlight, and enjoyed the cold breeze before it got dark. It was fun day; I think I will sleep deeply tonight. ■
